HLi Celebrates the 150th Birthday of the J. D. Hill Store

On July 30, 2022, Historic Littleton, Inc. celebrated 150 years of the J.D. Hill Building. Littleton’s Mayor Pro Tem, Gretchen Rydin, was there to say a few words and take part in the celebration. Attendees enjoyed birthday cake and posing for photos with Littleton’s Honorary Dog Mayor Murdoch and Dog Mayor Pro Tem Netty. And Gail Keeley, Historic Littleton, Inc.’s Board President, delivered an interesting presentation on the building’s history.

Located at 5738 S Rapp Street, the building was erected in 1872 and is the oldest building in Littleton in its original location. Julius D. Hill, known as J.D. Hill, was born in Massachusetts in 1843. He arrived to Denver in 1866 and later to Littleton in 1870 when he worked for Rough and Ready Flourmill. The building served as the first post office and general store and was temporarily the Littleton Town Hall.
