Historic Littleton, Inc., has its first honorary K9 Mayor! Meet Willis, a 14-year-old wire fox terrier. He loves shopping in Historic Downtown Littleton, chasing squirrels, and running around in the snow. The wire fox terrier is known for roles in 1930s detective movies—such as 1934’s The Thin Man—and Willis has been quite the detective in the Historic Littleton, Inc., Scavenger Hunt.
Historic Littleton, Inc. hosted the city’s first-ever dog mayor election in November 2021. To be considered, canine candidates posted photos in front of historic Littleton buildings and tagged @historic_littleton_inc on Instagram. Ten finalists were selected with the online election ultimately drawing over 6,000 votes.
Murdoch, a five-year-old Basset Hound, won the election with 2,495 votes and was announced the first Honorary Dog Mayor at a Littleton city council meeting. Murdoch is extremely excited and honored to represent his community, and he loves greeting his constituents with paw-shakes and howl-os.
Netty, a six-year-old French Bulldog, came in second place with 2,194 votes and will serve as the Honorary Dog Mayor Pro Tem. Netty is a service dog with a sweet disposition, and her family has a long-standing connection to Historic Downtown Littleton.
Murdoch and Netty will hold two-year terms to coincide with city council elections. In their roles, the pups will promote the city of Littleton and facilitate education about historic preservation—through programs and events.
